Mr. O’Leary goes to Washington, and oh, how he loves it.
The mayor of Culver City, Mehaul O’Leary, participating in the annual U.S. Conference of Mayors, will visit the White House this afternoon, and that is the chief highlight for him.
“I will get some pictures this time,” he promised.
Unlike 2012. “When I came four years ago, my phone died and I couldn’t get any pictures to prove I was there.
“This time I plan to have a phone that is fully charged,” Mr. O’Leary said.
“The Mayors Conference is an amazing event.”
A kid of 50, Mr. O’Leary feels as if he is making his maiden visit to Disneyland.
“You would not believe it,” said the not-so-grizzled veteran. “We are allowed to just wander around on the main floor of the White House, looking at all of the pictures in the Green Room, the Red Room.
“Absolutely fantastic.
“But I had no way of proving I was there four years ago,” Mr. O’Leary said.
“I didn’t have a colleague mayor with me last time. I will this time so we can photograph each other and prove we were there.”
With a twinkle in his Irish eyes, Mr. O’Leary assured his listener that “I have the system down this time.”
With a sizable bonus tacked on:
“I believe we might have an audience with President Obama – if he is in town.”
