Why Not Vote for Prop. 64? Says Vice Mayor

Once it may have been attention-stealing news that the vice mayor of Culver City will be voting Tuesday for Prop, 64, legalization of marijuana for medicinal and recreational purposes.

These days, however, says Jeff Cooper, it just makes sense.

“The medicinal marijuana ordinances are really kind of a sham,” Mr. Cooper said.

Here is what he means:

“Outside of getting a prescription for any minor malady, like an itchy elbow, anybody can get it.”

Mr. Cooper believes that legalizing these forms of pot will speed up “straightening out the law.

“By making marijuana legal,  we will be able to regulate it better. This way we can control it.”

A bonus of legalization, says Mr. Cooper, “is that it will take the illicit black market out of the equation.”

The vice mayor is not concerned that easier availability will lead to an explosion of uncontrollable use. Think of the failed Prohibition attempt in the 1930s.

What is new? He asks.

“People can pretty much use marijuana now, at a whim, recreationally,” said Mr. Cooper.

“It has been easy enough to ascertain whenever you want it. I don’t think anything is going to change much.”

If there is change, “it may become more difficult for our youth to get it because they get it from the black market. If we can take that component out of it, it would be a good thing.”

No surprise that the stoner Vice Mayor wants to make it legal. When he bragged about smoking pot recreationally, you saw his true nature. He appears to think he is above the law. Makes you wonder what others laws he is willing to break.
