Because our children need to remain healthy, connected, safe and whole during the summer months, the School District has created a free lunch program complete with a variety of daily activities for students under age 18.
Even though the program has begun, there still is time to sign up.
The fourth year of the lunch plan began last Monday. It includes not only the free meal but activities and games.
Books, board games, special guests, arts and crafts, physical activities are being offered five days a week through July 29 at
La Ballona Elementary School
Lunch is served from 11:30 to 12:30, and activities are available through the lunch hour, until 1 o’clock.
No forms need be filled out. There are no eligibility tests.
School District officials explain why this plan – inaugurated by Supt. Dave LaRose was started:
It has been proven that some students not only miss out on meaningful growth opportunities in the summer, but actually regress and lose academic, social and behavioral skills.
This opportunity to eat a free healthy meal becomes more impactful with the opportunities for students to learn, play games, connect with peers, connect with caring adults, participate in a summer reading program and learn new skills.
There are not many rules.
All food must be eaten on site. Parents are welcome to stay and partake in interactive activities while their children eat and play.
The site will close each weekday at 1.
