A short off-season, wasn’t it?
The popular, and by now nearly historic, seasonal gig known as Culver City’s Boulevard Summer Music Festival, returns in a scant two weeks.
Opening Night for the Gary Mandell-produced six-week concert series is Thursday, July 7, at 7 o’clock in the Dale Jones Courtyard at City Hall.
By the time you wade through the hip-deep name identities of this production, half of the first concert will be in the record books.
The witty Mr. Mandell and a slew of his favorite punch lines both will celebrate their 16th anniversary on Opening Night.
Not for long, though.
No favorite entertainers or jokes will be making comebacks this summer.
“An all-new lineup of entertainers and of jokes,” Mr. Mandell pledged yesterday while preparing for his next student lesson at Boulevard Music.
The Thursday nights-at-7 lineup:
- July 7 — Country/bluegrass music from 2015 Grammy- nominated Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley.
- July 14 — The sounds of World Music from Africa by Peter Mawanga and the Amaravi Movement.
- July 21 — High energy Latin/salsa rhythms, suitable for dancing from Orquesta Tabaco Y Ron.
- July 28 — Pop and rock classics performed in the sounds of golden age 1950s songs by Big Daddy.
- Aug. 4 — Internationally renowned Irish vocalist and flutist Nuala Kennedy and her ensemble.
- Aug. 11 — Soul/R&B with spirit going straight to the heart from Missy Andersen and her band.
