Friends of Rick Hudson, the late amateur coach, are growing impatient as they continue to press for a baseball field at Bill Botts Field to be named in his honor.

A detailed new plea is scheduled to be presented, in writing, to the City Council at this evening’s 7 o’clock meetiiching.

The Parks and Recreation Commission, which handles namings, recently shifted responsibility back to the Council. Commissioners said they needed clearer parameters.

This stunned Mr. Hudson’s loyal legions of fans and cheerleaders.

“There is no doubt,” says a well-connected political pal of Mr. Hudson’s, “that there is a finite number of places available for naming in Culver City.

“But Rick is such an easy, logical, defendable choice.

“One of the strongest reasons for naming a field for this amazing man loved by so many kids was that he was the purest form of community volunteer.

“He did not have a platform the way that elected or appointed officials do.

“The loyalty that friends and athletes are showing now in trying to win an honor for him,” said the friend, “just shows what a lasting impact he had on athletes.”

  1. Rick Hudson who achieved the trifecta of being a loving husband, a great dad, a well-respected coach and mentor to hundreds of young Culver City citizens and still had more of his time to contribute to his community, so well deserves to be honored by name recognition on the baseball fields of Culver City Park. Thanks to the continued dedicated efforts by the Friends of Rick Hudson, we will soon get pass the “policy-wonk posturing and small-time politics” that should not have happened.
