West Los Angeles College and the University of West Los Angeles, both in expansive moods, have signed a formal partnership agreement that will give the community college students the benefit of  another university that is available to them for a seamless “2+2” program.

This is where West L.A. students can complete a prescribed set of classes in two years, and then be guaranteed admission to the University of West L.A. where they can complete a bachelor’s degree in just two more years.

West has such agreements with universities in California and around the country including Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Additionally, students from both campuses will benefit from joint educational and social enrichment activities, including Law School 101 at the university, panel chats, shared use of libraries, distinguished speakers and workshops.

West L.A. is a community college offering paths to university transfer, Associate degrees and career training, while the University of West Los Angeles, best known for its law school, recently added a school of business and an international program.

The West Language Academy at West is a convenient resource for international students who need to improve their English skills before enrolling at the University of West Los Angeles. Aspiring university students can complete outstanding general education requirements they may need at West before embarking on their juris doctorate or master’s degrees.

West L.A. College has been increasing its focus on global education by establishing a global studies Associate degree, incorporating global themes into the curriculum, welcoming international students, and increasing students’ opportunities to study abroad.

West’s longtime partners – the Young Black Scholars program, sponsored by 100 Black Men of Los Angeles, and The Achiever Program, sponsored by the Angel City Chapter of the Links, Inc. – will be working together with both schools to raise funds to support study abroad for West’s traditional students and those in high school outreach programs connected with the college.

About 20 scholars will be selected for short-term study abroad scholarships by the next academic year.
