Prof. Kelly Kent, running for one of two available seats on the School Board, today reported five recent endorsements: Mayor Mehaul O’Leary, School Board President Nancy Goldberg, the Teachers Union, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, and the National Women’s Political Caucus, L.A. Westside, which boosted their support with a $500 contribution towards Dr. Kent’s campaign.
These endorsements complement nods Dr, Kent has won from the Culver City Community Coalition and the Culver City Democratic Club.
Dr. Kent’s most recent endorser, Mayor O’Leary, said, “She is both qualified and committed to the role as member. I am glad to endorse her.”
“How wonderful that our County Democratic Party agrees with our local club,” said Ms.Goldberg, who is retiring from the School Board this year. A former Culver City High School English and history teacher who has served the School District for nearly 50 years, Ms. Goldberg said that “Kelly is an exceptionally capable candidate. The Board will flourish with her on it.”
Ms. Goldberg joins past and present elected officials in supporting Dr. Kent, including Scott Zeidman, a former School Board President and the current chair of the Culver City Parks & Rec Commission. Mr. Zeidman has been serving side-by-side in this capacity with Dr. Kent for the past year.
According to a recent story in this newspaper, the endprsement is noteworthy because “Mr. Zeidman is a serious conservative. Dr. Kent is a dedicated liberal.”
Mr. Zeidman’s support of Dr. Kent demonstrates that Dr. Kent is adept at crossing the political divide and can collaborate and be productive on a team with four colleagues.
“Within two meetings,” Commissioner Zeidman said, “Kelly proved to be so intelligent, so understanding, so energetic that it really did not matter where she came from. It just meant she had the right ideas. She has done an incredible job.”
Additional Kelly Kent supporters include immediate past mayor and current City Councilmember Meghan Sahli-Wells, and a roster of current and past elected officials and commissioners.
