My daughter, who is 11 years old, attends Culver City Middle School. She is in the sixth grade.

She joined the Muslim Student Assn. to help make a difference in the school by volunteering and helping the community.

One of her first projects she came up with was doing homeless care packages.

My daughter lost her grandmother on Oct. 22.

Her grandmother was very giving to the poor.

She wanted to do something to honor her grandmother by giving back.

That is why she started the homeless care packages project.

She first ran it by MSA, then her counselor, and then then project was approved by the principal.

Through posters, word of mouth, having a table set up at lunch to talk about her homeless drive, word was spread.

She collected items for 100 to 150 packages for the homeless.

The packages included water bottles, wet wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, dry fruit bars and socks.

Together with MSA and the Culver City Middle School student body, these materials are being packed.

They are planning to distribute them to the homeless in Skid Row during the holidays.

My daughter hopes to grow this drive each year and expand to the community. Please remember she is 11 years old.
