School Board candidate Scott McVarish attended last Thursday evening’s meeting of the School District’s Bond Oversight Committee.
He said he wanted to learn the latest developments in the complex bond expenditure and facility upgrade process.
Mr. McVarish, like the rest of the field in the Nov. 3 race for two open seats, is a first-time candidate.
He participated in budgetary discussions involving the bidding process for design architects.
“We have had close to 20 bids,” Mr. McVarish said. “I want to make sure that our Culver City architects are looked at closely because our local talent can compete with anyone.”
Earlier on Thursday, Mr. McVarish attended the Culver City Chamber of Commerce’s conference on Technology and Creativity at the DoubleTree Hotel.
At the conference. Mr. McVarish noted that no one from the School District was on the panel because “we have not yet embraced innovative technology enough.
He said the idea that he and running mate Anne Burke are touting — a Science & Technology Academy at the high school – “will help our students be prepared for life and work in the 2020s.”
Mr. McVarish and Ms. Burke talked to voters in their precinct walks and door- knocking over the weekend.
