This is not your father’s Summer Concert Series in the Courtyard of City Hall.
Fight Night has faded into history.
After a decade and a half as promoter and operator of the Summer Concert Series, Gary Mandell, the music man, has won a measure of security.
Faces on the Cultural Affairs Commission and City Council who tried annually – for vague reasons – to scuttle Mr. Mandell, have gone to their earthly reward, retirement.
Mr. Mandell is the last man standing.
Here is how much times have changed since the Mandell critics were silenced:
At Monday evening’s 7 o’clock City Council meeting a unanimous vote is anticipated when the down-agenda item – financial arrangements for the July-August program — is addressed.
What is different from the stormy past?
“The Council has changed, and Gary’s main critic from the Cultural Affairs Commission is gone,” said Vice Mayor Andy Weissman.
