Re: “Why Evidence of Bond Money Isn’t Visible –Yet”

In a summer that was supposed to be buzzing with construction and upgrading – and isn’t — spending and carrying out the first round of the $107M school facilities improvement passed last year is amazingly more complicated than anyone in the upper echelon of the School District had reckoned.

Supt. Dave LaRose repeatedly returned to this point during his most recent interview.

“My learning curve here is this,” said the man who is starting his fourth year in Culver City. “When we develop a more comprehensive multi-year scope and sequence in our master schedule, that will take into consideration all of the pre-work that is up front.

“What we talk about is process, projects and priorities.

“That process and the projects are more comprehensive than even I had anticipated, in terms of identifying those projects, the scope of the projects, the architectural work, the construction management work,” Mr. LaRose acknowledged.

“All of this is a much, much more comprehensive and detailed process than even I had anticipated. I have been in touch with legal counsel and with Balfour Beatty, our construction management firm that is putting the final touches on our agreement with them to address this work.”
