Is the unofficial eight-way race for three City Council seats in April a mirage or 3½ months of highly entertaining political showmanship?
Likely, somewhere in the middle.
Not everyone who filed last week may follow up.
Obtaining between 20 and 30 signatures is not the challenge. Even a tourist, from the moon could accomplish that.
Two other hurdles are the impediments:
- Committing to a lengthy campaign, which means plotting tactics and strategies. Do you have the endurance? What do you believe? Why do you believe it? Can you convince others, in public from a rostrum, that these remedies are what City Hall and the community need?
- Especially in such a marathon exercise, you will need, say experts, $25,000. How will you present yourself? How will you distinguish yourself?
We may have to wait until the Jan. 15 filing deadline for answers.
