Dr. Kelly Kent, newest member of the School Board, declared she is saddened that Supt. Dave LaRose plans to leave the School District in June.
“I am heartbroken,” she said last evening at the Thomas Small fundraiser. “I am giving myself just today to be heartbroken. Tomorrow I will be ready to look forward and be optimistic.
“I am pretty sad,” she said while rounding off her third month on the School Board.
Question: Was Dr. Kent well acquainted with Mr. LaRose, in his fourth year?
“I don’t know if I would use those words,” she said. “I met with him every two weeks after winning the election, so twice a month since November.”
The LaRose image Dr. Kent will carry with her is “a genuine, passionate love of children, all children. Dave’s bottom line always is kids.
“His interests are not profit, even though finances are a huge part of the School District. His only interests are kids.”
Dr. Kent’s eyes widened, and her arms swung, in the manner of a musical conductor as she sought to describe her departing short-term boss.
“It was just so clear,” she said.
“Every program he was putting in place – the outcome always was about better education for kids, or making sure we reached the kids who were not getting reached.
“He was a dream superintendent,” Dr. Kent said.
“A very warm person, he always was responsive to me. He is so enthusiastic, so charismatic.”
Reader, please take note:
You don’t have to know me for more than 5 minutes to know I can be enthusiastic about my feelings, but this article is a little over the top. Only one of those lovely things I believe and said about Dave was necessary to get the point across as opposed to an entire article of gush.
Secondly, that “profit” quote is a jumble and doesn’t apply to a conversation about a superintendent at all.
