It is that joyous time of the year when awards are distributed because both givers and recipients want to feel good during the month when there is the most darkness.
The Lions Club of Culver City recently presented its Award of Excellence to Albert Vera Jr., owner of Sorrento Market.
Extending a tradition begun by his late father, Mr. Vera recently donated turkey for 200 dinners on Thanksgiving Day at the Senior Center.
Other prominent citizens also have earned honors.
Mike Eskridge, the owner of Culver Center Flowers and a former multi-term member of the School Board, earned a Lions Club Award of Excellence along with Golden State Water Co.
In both cases, the businesses were saluted for their contributions to the Senior Center toward Thanksgiving dinner.
“Meals are free for our deserving seniors because of the participation of our outstanding business community and local volunteers,” said Lions Club officer Elliot Heffler. Mr. Heffler has chaired the program the past 40 years.
