The Fall Dance Concert, by the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts of Culver City High School, will be staged Friday and Saturday evenings at the Robert Frost Auditorium on campus.
Featuring original work by the AVPA dance faculty and students, the music begins at 7 o’clock both evenings.
“The students’ choreography is really the highlight of the evening,” explains Julie Carson, Artistic Director of Dance for the AVPA.
“Our students have arrived at a place where their technical and creative experiences have come together. Their work is unique and very exciting.
“We used to stay away from fall concerts,” Ms. Carson said, “to encourage our students to concentrate on their technical proficiency. We have come to a time when the students are ready to create and perform just a few months into the fall semester.”
In addition to the students, this weekend’s concert will spotlight the work of three of the dance department’s shining faculty members, Sadie Yarrington, and AVPA alums Becca Cousineau and Christian Espinel.
This small group of dance faculty have been quite an inspiration to our students, and they bring new technical and creative challenges. Their new ideas have been eagerly devoured by AVPA students.
An evening jam-packed with original dances that are thrilling, thought provoking, humorous, and poignant, say critics.
Tickets, at $6 and $8, only are available at the door.
