Chamber of Commerce’s technology, digital panel.

Our city is at the crossroads of technology and creativity.

The intersection of digital content and how to deliver that content to a whole new generation of consumers who have seen their computers become their televisions and their televisions become their computers

Last Thursday at the DoubleTree by Hilton, NBC4’s Conan Nolan led a discussion on how Culver City’s assets will help guide our city into future.  The panelists, a mix of developers, creative business people and City Manager John Nachbar exchanged views on technology and creativity.

Community development standards were emphasized by Aliza Guren of Karney Management, including:

  • The need for developers to embrace community benefits as part of their projects, and
  • The importance of the one percent arts fee on development projects.

Michael Hackman of Hackman Capital Partners and The Culver Studios, discussed the walkability and the authenticity of Culver City.

He said there is a critical need for Culver City to tackle the on-going challenge of creating parking opportunities throughout the business districts of Culver City.

Jo Muse of Muse Communication, Will Campbell of Quantasy and Elias Pleshner of Sony Pictures discussed the importance of creating a sense of place in Culver City that is appealing to their employees.

They highlighted a need to create a walkable area that fosters a collaborative environment and enables employees from a variety of companies to join a social community outside of their digital worlds.

Mr. Nachbar, the city manager, examined  the upcoming municipal broadband fiber system that will bring high-speed conductivity to 99 percent of the Culver City business community. He praised the new effort, the first of its kind in any city in the nation, as a leading economic driver of the city – one that will not only enhance existing business productivity but one that will also help attract new high-tech businesses.

All panel members supported the municipal broadband project as an economic tool that, when added to the city’s already hot reputation and popularity among creative economy businesses, will continue to attract the brightest minds to the crossroads of technology and creativity, Culver City.
