Re: “Dear, Do You Recall Who the City Clerk Is?”

Dateline Carson – For those grownups who live to be entertained, the 90 days leading up to the newest recall attempt against Carson City Clerk Jim Dear, on Feb. 23, magically may morph into the most dazzling show this side of verifying whether the moon is made of cheese from Wisconsin or Turkey.

The irony of this slender, quivering sliver in time is that most of this industrial, ethnically oriented community is not mad at anybody. Contrarily, they are flying at least roof high with the intoxicating prospect that two National Football League franchises may move to Carson of all places and play in 64,500-seat Stub Hub Stadium.

For high-octane drama and perspiring emotions, it may surpass the tense winter watch over whether the Chargers and Raiders are going to transfer here.

Former City Councilperson Vera Robles DeWitt, who is leading her second recall against Mr. Dear, and the city clerk dislike each other more than President Obama loathes Republicans. Do not doubt they cannot stand each other.

“Jim, I have known for 10 years,” Mrs. Robles DeWitt said this afternoon, “and he is the worst thing that could have come to Carson.

“He snowed everybody. He still charms the people.

“Right now, to this day, he goes up to people and talks to them as if nothing ever happened.

“Then these people come back to me. They say, ‘Do you know what that (blank blank blank) said to me?’”

Disbelief streaked across Mrs. Robles DeWitt’s face.

“Doesn’t he get it?” she asked rhetorically. “People don’t like him.”
