The shortest and most unusual School Board race in Culver City history is wheezing and heaving.
No, not the contenders, Anne Burke and Scott McVarish.
The calendar and the clock are breathing heavily.
In a normal year, the filing period would expire Friday afternoon when the clock strikes 5.
These summer days are abnormal.
Because two incumbents whose terms are expiring – School Board president Nancy Goldberg and former president Laura Chardiet – announced weeks ago they were retiring from office, the filing deadline has been extended five extra days.
Potential candidates may take out papers at the County Registrar’s office in Norwalk until Wednesday afternoon at 5.
Will anyone join Ms. Burke and Mr. McVarish?
