On Saturday morning, starting between 8 and 9 o’clock, 10,000 volunteers from all over Southern California will do their part to clean up their local beaches, rivers, creeks and parks.
That is just part of the Coastal Cleanup Day picture.
It happens every year across the world. Last year it drew 600,000 participants.
Heal the Bay will host 50 cleanup sites from Malibu to Pasadena so that it will be easy to participate even if one does not live near the beach.
Heal the Bay seeks volunteers of all ages and physical abilities.
No special equipment or experience is necessary. Site captains will organize a diverse mix of individuals, families, neighborhoods, community groups, schools, faith-based groups, sports teams and businesses.
Volunteers are encouraged to help protect what they love. They are told they will feel better about the environment, and better about themselves.
Free volunteer parking will be available at site parking lots operated by the County — Torrance, Dockweiler, Venice and Will Rogers.
Limited parking passes are available at Santa Monica beach lots 1S, 4S and 5S, which will be distributed by CCD volunteers at kiosks. If free parking is not available, volunteers are encouraged to carpool, bike, or take mass transit.

One other note: a morning triathlon is scheduled near the Zuma area of Malibu, so traffic may be impacted along PCH.
