Re: “Her Husband Lies Unburied”
On this one-month anniversary of her husband’s death from fast-moving cancer in Nevada, Jacquelyn Deloatch was scheduled to visit a Lawndale mortuary at noon today to make a down payment on his funeral.
Two hundred dollars short of the required $1100 early this morning, the Compton mayoralty candidate of three years ago was confident she would close the deal by the noon hour.
Ms. Deloatch is further optimistic that she will raise the final $2300 this week, in time to finally bury Philip Jefferson on Monday. The service is planned for 11 a.m. at McKay’s South Bay Mortuary, Lawndale (mckaymortuaries.com).
The Jefferson-Deloatch autumn romance and marriage was financially troubled for years. When 89-year-old Mr. Jefferson checked into a Las Vegas hospital last August complaining of severe constipation, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He never left the hospital before dying on Dec. 19.
