The City of Culver City this morning filed a petition for review (see here) with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, challenging the environmental review for the Federal Aviation Administration’s Southern California Metroplex Project.
The project redesigns the airspace over Southern California, from Santa Barbara to San Diego.
Culver City objects to the FAA’s finding-of-no-significant-impact.
It accuses the agency of failing to fully analyze the manifest noise, air quality and cumulative impacts of the project.
The petition challenges the absence of requisite technical analysis underlying the flight paths created by the airspace redesign.
“Our residents have already experienced a significant impact on their quality of life from current flight path changes,” said Mayor Jim Clarke.
“The citizens and businesses of Culver City deserve a full analysis and discussion of the location, altitude, and impacts of these new approach and departure procedures created by the project.
“They are absent from the FAA’s environmental assessment,” Mr. Clarke added.
