Forty days away from the start of Culver City’s year-long Centennial Celebration, today times for the Opening Day ceremonies are being revealed for the first time.
Opening Day, Saturday, Sept. 24, will be a true across-the-community event with broad participation.
As Founding Father Harry Culver once said, “All roads lead to Culver City.”
No matter what road you are traveling, business owners, neighbors and friends are invited to participate in launching the centennial year.
9 a.m. – Community Parade.
Chairman Paul Jacobs and the Centennial Committee want to showcase all the organizations and businesses that make Culver City such a desirable place to live, work, learn and play.
Parade participants will gather at Vets Park and march to downtown.
11 a.m. to 12 noon — Opening Ceremonies.
Presentations by state and local dignitaries and longtime Culver City residents will be featured.
In a tribute to Culver City’s half-century affiliation with the Sister City organization across the world, mayors from Culver City’s four Sister Cities will be present. They will represent Kaizuka, Japan, Iksan City, South Korea, Uruapan, Mexico, and Lethbridge, Canada.
Of special interest will be the moment when the time capsule is opened from Culver City’s 75th anniversary in 1992.
12 noon to 4 p.m. – Community Block Party.
Downtown as it never has been scene – a broad variety of food stations, live entertainment, merchandise vendors from across the spectrum and information booths. There also will be entertainment and attractions for children and families.
