After hearing presentations yesterday morning by all three candidates, the Culver City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors voted overwhelmingly to endorse Anne Burke and Scott McVarish for the two open seats on the School Board in the Nov. 3 election.
“Anne and Scott showed a wide range of knowledge on issues facing the School District,” said board chair Kevin Lachoff.
“Adding to the District’s technology curriculum and promoting job preparedness are important goals for students as they prepare for their adult life. Anne and Scott support these goals.”
Two members of the Chamber board linked to the School District recused themselves – Sue Robins of the School Board and Geoff Maleman, communications specialist for the District.
With a 15-minute time limit, each of the three candidates – including Prof. Kelly Kent – met privately with the Chamber’s board, but not bored, audience while opponents waited in a separate room at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel.
“Our questions were written to draw out the issues facing the Culver City business community,” said Michael Hamill, chair of the Culver PAC.
“The technology-driven nature of the business world, especially in Culver City, makes it important that School Board members know the needs of the changing economy.”
Video of each candidate’s responses will be posted next week on the Chamber’s website, www.culvercitychamber.com
