At the dawn of Election Day, the outcome of the three-way race for two School Board seats is as clouded as a London winter day.
By late this evening, the sun will emerge for the two lucky survivors of this tightly contested race in which no detectable favorite has surfaced.
Will the techniques of Dr. Kelly Kent, neuroscientist, prevail over the policy changes advocated by the team of Anne Burke and Scott McVarish?
Which side, and there are only two, will be able to coax more supporters to the poll?
Will the teaming of Mr. McVarish and Ms. Burke as a single entry prove to be such a brilliant tactic that together they will overwhelm Dr. Kent’s bid?
Or will bullet voting, popularized by Dr. Kent’s supporters, bring her home as the top votegetter?
Curiously, the war for the School Board chairs being vacated by Laura Chardiet and Nancy Goldberg is being contested between o-routinely enraged backers of the two sides, not by the candidates themselves.
It has been different, and a pleasure, for the contestants.
Ostensibly, Dr. Kent and the Burke-McVarish team were as cordial in the company of each other as if they patiently were waiting in a receiving line to greet royalty.
Don’t ask, though, about their tart-tongued backers.
Ill rumors nastily, meanly were floated about two of the three contenders. By the climax of a three-month campaign, however, the reports appear to have been successfully repelled.
Voters, however, will have the final say today.
