Scott Wyant’s campaign for a City Council seat continued to gain momentum this week when he secured the endorsement of the Chamber of Commerce.
Earlier in the week, Mr. Wyant hosted a campaign fundraiser, drawing a crowd of supporters to his Culver Hotel event.
“I am thrilled that neighbors, friends, activists, city commissioners and the business community in Culver City can all agree on at least one thing, my candidacy,” Mr. Wyant said.
“I believe my campaign message, ‘Growth with heart,’ is resonating with many in Culver City. They understand that for our city to be as successful as we have been for the past 100 years, we have to truly understand and respect our history while moving forward.
Regarding the importance of the Chamber to the community, Mr. Wyant stated, “the Culver City Chamber of Commerce has been an indispensable advocate for the business community. Most members are small business owners like myself. I know I wouldn’t be as successful without the network and support the Chamber provides. Thank you to the Chamber for your endorsement and for all you do for our business community and our city.”
As a small business owner, family man, and nearly 30-year Culver City resident, Mr. Wyant said he understands and shares the values of this community. One of his campaign themes, “planning for the next 100 years” sets out an aggressive agenda that will launch Culver City into the next century.
With Mr. Wyant on the dais, he seeks to serve as a leader relating to technology, planning, and growth, all while keeping in mind the family values he holds.
Having served on the Chamber of Commerce board of directors since 2007, Mr. Wyant continues to provide his knowledge and skills in multiple areas.
For the past two years, he has been Government Relations Chair. He is the founding chair of the Transportation Task Force, which is partnering with the city to find ways to streamline transportation for business employees, customers, and suppliers. In that role, he led a delegation that met early in October with U.S. Rep. Karen Bass (D-Culver City/Crenshaw District) to relay concerns that LAX overflights were hurting local businesses, schools and real estate values. Overflights were fouling the environment, they told Ms. Bass.
Mr. Wyant served as a Vice President of the Chamber from 2008-2013, was founding chair of the Sustainability Committee, and Education Committee chair for two years. As a member of the Chamber, he long has advocated for residents to “buy locally, not online” Most importantly, he believes that small local businesses fuel the progress that Culver City has enjoyed over the years.
Mr. Wyant gained the endorsement of longtime Council member and former Mayor Andy Weissman, along with Councilmembers Jeff Cooper and Jim Clarke. He has been endorsed by all of his fellow Planning Commissioners.
