Bixby Seeks to Quell Latest Immigrant Fears

Police Chief Bixby

Here are the three most crucial words that Culver City Police Chief Scott Bixby will deliver this week.

Or probably any week that President Trump is in office:

Nothing. Has. Changed.

There has not been any form of communication from Washington to Culver City on immigration or any other topic.

“I know people were and are upset and panicked,” Chief Bixby said.

“They are worried that there will be some kind of roundup, but I just don’t see it happening.

“We certainly have not received any kind of information, communication, instructions, requests – not anything like that from the federal government.”

To be precise, Chief Bixby  said fears are “unwarranted.”

Adding that “this is just one man’s opinion,” he repeated that the Police Dept. is not, and will not be, “doing anything differently.”

Routinely, the chief speaks with unmistakable clarity and precision.

If he does that in everyday settings, the more so in a feared crisis – for clarity and emphasis.

He repeated each of his most delicate assertions at least twice.

After saying “we are not changing the way we do business,” Chief Bixby identified a departure from what he had said:

“If we arrest somebody and he has an immigration hold, and the paperwork is proper, and they come within the timeframe they are supposed to be here, then we cooperate with other law enforcement entities.”
