On Thursday, U.S. Reps. Karen Bass (D-Culver City/Crenshaw District) and Ted Lieu (D-South Bay) will welcome members of the House Democrats Future Forum to UCLA.
They will be joined by Reps. Eric Swalwell (D-Hayward), Pete Aguilar (D-Redlands), and Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI).
The members of Congress will start their visit to UCLA at 9 o’clock with Dr. Jayathi Y. Murthy, the new Dean of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science.
Later they will join Dr. Kang Wang in electrical engineering, along with engineering students for a tour of engineering labs.
At 10, the Congresspersons will participate in an interactive town hall with UCLA students at Ackerman Union.
A student representative from Start-Up UCLA will give brief remarks about innovation opportunities for undergraduates. The politicians will take questions from the audience.
Launched by Rep. Swalwell last year, the Future Forum is a group of young Democratic members of Congress focused on issues that impact millennial Americans, such as student loans and homeownership.
After the launch of the Future Forum last April in Washington D.C., members began a national listening tour with stops in New York City, Boston, and San Francisco. Since then they have traveled to Seattle, Phoenix, Anaheim and New Hampshire. They are working on a legislative package. The UCLA visit is a part of this tour.
