In quest of a unique, imaginative, stimulating family experience?

On Monday evening at 7, imaginative El Rincon Elementary will host Family Astronomy Night, a Celebration of Science, Technology and Space – for all community families.

The strongest, most accomplished minds have been invited.

The headliner is Steve Levin of the School Board and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, billed by El Rincon as “our resident astrophysicist,”

Members of the Los Angeles Astronomy Society and the Planetary Society will be at El Rincon, too.

Mr. Levin said this morning that there will not be any formal talks.

“I’m going to bring my telescope, and so will a few other people from the L.A. Astronomical Society and from the Planetary Society,” he said. “We will show people the night sky through our telescopes.”

“I always am happy to answer science questions, and the kids often ask me questions while waiting for their turn to look through the telescope,” said the soft-spoken, introspective Mr. Levin.

“The main focus, though, will be looking at the night sky.  Members of the Astronomy Society and the Planetary Society may also bring along astronomy info to hand out.”

Mr. Levin said that similar outer space programs have been held at other campuses in the School District.

“But this is the first time,” he said, “that the entire CCUSD community is invited to join us at El Rincon.”
