Weeks after brain surgery and happily shoehorning the working date between regularly scheduled radiation treatments, Planning Commissioner Scott Wyant reported to Council Chambers a few minutes before last evening’s meeting.
Tall, strapping and wearing an understated smile, Mr. Wyant strode toward the well in front of the dais.
One by one, commissioners and others greeted, hugged and posed for pictures.
David Voncannon was the first commissioner in Chambers, followed by Ed Ogosta and Dana Amy Sayles and chair Kevin Lachoff.
Was there any change in the man in the spotlight?
Despite the scariness of his sudden infirmary that began a few days after the April12 election, the answer was no.
While professionally he has resumed servicing his roster of tech clients, he was due back at UCLA early this morning to resume radiation treatments.
A few weeks ago there was talk that Mr. Wyant might be forced, by fragile health, to step down going into his final year on the Commission.
That talk soon followed the next cloud — across the sky, into oblivion.
Because the Planning Commission has not convened since March, Mr. Wyant has not missed a meeting.
Climbing the steps to the dais and taking a sharp turn to the right – but not politically – Mr. Wyant quietly, but not silently, assumed his seat between Chair Lachoff and Mr. Ogosta.
Preparing for a photo, Mr. Wyant withdrew a pen from his briefcase.
Aiming it toward his temporarily closed mouth, Mr. Wyant’s sly wit staged a subtle comeback
“For this picture,” he said, “I want to look pensive.”
