Following this evening’s City Council candidates forum at the Raintree complex, Marcus Tiggs has a busy personal schedule.
Not, however, until after he and his six rivals for the three seats in the April 12 election face two more sessions influential audiences:
- Wednesday afternoon, the field makes a traditional trek to the Beverly Hills intersection of Wilshire and LaCienega boulevards to meet with a panel of Westside realtors.
- On Friday evening, the test may be less tense. They will dine with the Friends of the Library, when last Saturday’s long-awaited reopening of the Julian Dixon Library will be a dominant topic.
And then Mr. Tiggs, a bankruptcy lawyer, will be able to refocus on his own campaign, which has been low-key, paralleling his personality.
The announcement came from Silvio Nunez Jr., manager of Mr. Tiggs’s drive for office:
“On Saturday afternoon from 12 noon until 4, Marcus will be hosting our third in a series of campaign barbeques at local parks.
“The elecTiggs campaign will host a complimentary barbeque at El Marino Park, 5301 Berryman Ave.
“All residents with an appetite for lunch are invited and encouraged to stop by and meet the candidate, Marcus G. Tiggs.”
Intending to evoke World War II imagery for mature voters, the Tiggs campaign is staging an old-fashioned “USO Tour Fundraiser” at the historic Culver Hotel one week from Sunday, on March 6, from 3 o’clock to 6. With Mr. Culver City, Mike Cohen, presenting his best Bob Hope imitation, Mr. Tiggs has promised a nostalgic afternoon of 1940s swing music and blues.
