‘Tis the season for Scott Wyant to be jolly.
Entering Council Chambers well ahead of last evening’s special meeting, the City Council candidate was returning from a crucial family chore.
“I went down to buy a Christmas tree at Parcel B, and it looks as if this is the last time I will be able to do that,” he said.
Did Mr. Wyant get the tree he wanted?
“I got the tree my (27-year-old) daughter wanted, which is what really matters,” he said with a smile.
The Wyant family spans the December holidays.
“We had a Chanukah dinner on Saturday night,” he said, “and then I picked up the Christmas tree today.”
How much did Mr. Wyant pay for a tree four days before Christmas?
“If you go kind of late in the season,” he said, “the guy will say, ‘If you really want a bargain, there are special bargains today. Don’t pay this price,’ (and he pointed to an optimistic price tag).”
How much did it cost?
“To be honest,” Mr. Wyant said, “I was loading it onto the car when my wife paid for it. I think it was $35. It was listed at $80.”
Meanwhile, Mr. Wyant said he will visit City Clerk Martin Cole’s office today, the second day that Council candidates may take filing papers for the April three-seat election.
How much money will he need to raise to stage a competitive run?
“A whole lot of variables are involved,” he said. “The answer to that is, the campaign you run depends on how much you raise.
“The number that is commonly bandied about, and has been for years, is somewhere between $15,000 for an incumbent and $25,000 for a newcomer.
“Usually, you need about 2500 votes,” said Mr. Wyant, “and I think that is a laudable goal.”
