One of a series.

Re: “On the Road Again, Starring Both LaRoses”

Consulting work is his next – but by no means final — assignment, outgoing School District Supt. Dave LaRose said in his final interview.

Hanging loose.

“Consulting is a means to an end,” he said. “Long-term, there might be a completely different shift.

“Who knows?” asked Mr. LaRose. “Mindi and I want to make a decision at a point where it’s not so scripted – maybe (scripted) a little bit for the short term. We need to do the math and be able to live.

“We will be able to see what doors open.”

Not at all passive now or throughout his four-year term, Mr. LaRose won’t lean back and hope opportunities flow his way.

“I certainly have an interest in writing, in being more explicit about the work I am going to do,” he said. “I can be a generalist because I have done a lot of different things. If I narrow my focus, it will be more tied to the (administrative) work I have done here and in Washington (state).

“It will be around organizational culture, intimately engaging in community and meeting the needs of the ‘whole child,’” a phrase, a refreshing concept that Mr. LaRose introduced and made wildly popular with his uniquely engaging manner.

He smiled while saying that
“the first story you wrote about me mentioned the ‘whole child’ phrase 19 times.

“If nothing else,” said Mr. LaRose, laughing easily, “I hope I have remained consistent.”
