‘Silent’ cast takes a bow

“The No Limits event was a perfect blend of information, inspiration, comedy, and emotion.  Hearing the stories of the lives of these kids (now adults) was incredibly moving.  It’s an event that should not be missed.”  – Jill Risk

“An amazing evening of sharing, caring and freedom to be and say with ‘no limits’ how these individuals feel about their own abilities, aspirations and hope about the labels that come with deafness. No Limits is a gateway to accessing support, respect and personal discovery.” – Jo-Ann Dean

“I was so moved by what everyone had to say, how they expressed their true feelings and exposed themselves to everyone. Everyone has such a different story and perspective to tell, it makes you just what to hear more.” – Linda Vestrich

No Limits Theater Group’s hit original production Silent No More, will return to the Kirk Douglas Theatre on Friday, June 12, at 8, with a new cast sharing their inspiring life stories.

This performance is made possible in part by a Culver City Performing Arts Grant with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Created as a theatrical documentary, Silent No More is an intimate evening featuring readings by Kathy Buckley, Samantha Dudley, Henry Greenfield, Julie Heimler, Iris Lee, Ivy Lee, Nanci Linke-Ellis, Johnny Palmer, Yajaira Pelayo, Michelle Tang, Claudia Vasquez, and Enid Wizig.

By showcasing on stage the extremely personal experiences, struggles and successes in growing up hard-of-hearing and learning to speak and listen, as well as opening the floor to two-way discussion of the key issues affecting these individuals, No Limits aims to use the performance as a platform for two reasons:

  • To encourage dialogue within the deaf community.
  • To strengthen the support system for all children with any degree of hearing loss.

After a sold-out performance at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C., and other venues nationwide, No Limits brings the show back to Los Angeles to continue an important conversation.

“With today’s advancements in hearing technology,” said Ms. Buckley, “it has created a new generation of deafness.

“Children with a hearing loss are learning to speak and listen. They are often considered part of the hearing world. Yet, without their hearing devices, they cannot hear.

“The question is ‘Where do they fit in this world?  Are they part of the deaf community or the hearing community?’  The cast of Silent No More takes off the brave masks they wear in public to share their intimate an life stories.

Audiences will meet this new generation of individuals that hopefully will spark a much-needed conversation and debate among everyone in the room.

This performance is made possible in part by a Culver City Performing Arts Grant with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

About No Limits

No Limits is a nationwide organization focused on increasing speech and language skills and fostering the self-esteem of deaf and hard of hearing children through the theatrical arts and after-school enrichment centers in Culver City and Las Vegas, NV.  The organization was founded in 1996 by Dr. Michelle Christie, a teacher for the deaf with 18 years of experience in the entertainment industry, after recognizing the lack of opportunities for oral deaf children to improve their ability to speak.    For more information, visit http://www.nolimitsfordeafchildren.org
