That tingling sensation means Opening Night has arrived for Boulevard Music’s Summer Concert series in the Courtyard of City Hall.
Sharply at 7 o’clock – 2 ½ to 3 hours after fans start arriving — either the curtain or impresario Gary Mandell will go up …on stage.
Mr. Mandell will welcome a hefty audience of familiar faces to the first of six consecutive Thursday night performances.
To some longtime fans, the names of the performers are secondary to being out at night in brightly lit Downtown, amongst a celebratory crowd.
For the record, the Latin band Calé will performing a mixture of fresh Latin and Flamenco rhythms with pop/rock/funk and electronic elements.
They create a wide musical menu. It ranges from chill-out instrumentals to contagiously danceable rumbas such as “Noches de Mala Vida” or traditional tangos/flamencos and Latin/pop songs like “Mujer Cruel.”
Calé fuses in its components a musical recipe aimed at fans from traditional to modern.
Calé was created eight years ago, and after its debut album “Vente Conmigo,” Calé came back with “Noches de Mala Vida,” a more mature yet modern approach in which the band has found a middle point of music
equilibrium that defines Calé as a unique musical experience.
In addition to Calé, Conganas (“with passion”) will be on stage, featuring musicians from around the world playing salsa, cumbia, cha-cha, bolero, and Latin jazz, among other Latin rhythms. Originally formed by Chilean percussionist Christian Moraga in 2010, Conganas also features Cuban pianist Fermin Siponter, American bassist Rene Camacho, and Venezuelan trumpeter Enzo Villaparedes.
With their debut recording, Conganas (2013), sought to illustrate that they are superb covering standards and well-known songs while being creative with their original works.
