[Editor’s Note: When Culver City’s poetess laureate and her husband Charley were invited to a 50th wedding anniversary celebration in 2014, she penned this poem – bolstered by annual additions.]
My husband has been married
Longer than our friends
It’s just that his first marriages
All came to different ends
His first one lasted for twelve years
His second lasted three
His third was for fifteen years
And then he married me
We’ve been married 23 years
The sum is now fifty-three
So he’s been married a long, long time
To four women – three plus me..!
1/12/2015
Today we are celebrating 24
And if God’s willing
We’ll celebrate more…
1/12/2016
This year makes it 25
But he’s been married fifty-five!
