For Saturday morning’s rain-barrel distribution, the West Basin Municipal Water District has established eight guidelines:

  1. Must reside in West Basin’s service area(www.westbasin.org/maps)
  2. Minimum of up to two per household, depending on supply
  3. The rain barrel must be mounted in a way that allows the barrel to receive water unimpeded from a rain gutter
  4. Should not block or obstruct walkways, pathways
  5. Should be elevated six inches off the ground, on a solid foundation
  6. Should be strapped to your home for safety – the height of the barrel is two times greater than the width
  7. Homes must have rain gutters and downspouts
  8. Rain barrels must be installed within 30 days. They may be inspected

Purchasers must be pre-registered at one of two places – www.sbesc.com or by telephoning the South Bay Environmental Services Center at 310.371.4633.

Distribution on Saturday will be from 8 to 12 noon at the Edward C. Little Water Recycling Facility, 1935 S. Hughes Way, El Segundo.
