Re “Vice Mayor Small Is Going Home – Sort of

Jim Clarke, the immediate past mayor of Culver City, is beginning his technically shorted final year on the City Council with a spectacular splash.

Like executing a high dive from the roof of a skyscraper.

The  political lifer who enjoys his career more than breathing – were that possible – is joining Mayor Jeff Cooper and Vice Mayor Thomas Small on an 11-day mission to Capo d’Orlando, Sicily, which officially opens one week from tomorrow.

Their mission:

To close the details on officially welcoming the Sicilian community as Culver City’s newest Sister City.

Mr. Clarke said that the governments of Capo d’Orlando and Culver City need to pass resolutions to complete the birthing process.

As for Mr. Clarke, he said he is going to follow the schedule, which means “they are going to be taking is to some place or some event almost every day.

“This is not vacation time,” he said. “I am just going over for the program, they have in place for us.”

Mr. Small and his wife Joanna, and Mr. Cooper and his wife Rafia plan to make a holiday of it – seeing old friends in Mr. Small’s case, and the Coopers are making their maiden trip to Europe.

Mr. Clarke has a potential security concern.

“The G7 summit is being held in Sicily, and it starts the day after we leave,” he said. “Security and everything else will be real tight.”
