Re: “’Fake Ticket’ Pulled – Roman Says Thank You”

The mystery of reader Josie Roman’s erroneous parking citation for a street sweeping violation on a non-street sweeping morning, has moved into a new day, inches – but not miles – nearer an explanation.

She was cited on a Wednesday on Hayden Avenue when she parked in front of the lone sign on the entire street that did not identify Thursday as street sweeping day.

Although Capt. Ron Iizuka of the Police Dept. scotched the July 8 ticket this week, the search for how it happened led this morning to the office of Public Works Director Charles Herbertson.

“There are a couple possibilities,” he said. “I am just speculating. At one point,  the street may have been posted for Wednesday street sweeping. For one reason or another, the sweeping day was changed to Thursday, and that sign did not get changed.

“Possibility No. 2 is that when the signs were put up,” said Mr. Herbertson, “somehow our crew that puts up the signs put up the one here.

“Nobody caught it until now.”

Mr. Herbertson said those are the only two scenarios that come to his mind.
