What Is My Passion This Week?

Robert EbsenOP-ED

I thought about Biblical Videos (I love watching them), my Tree Hobby (I love identifying them), and Filling My Ink Cartridges (I love filling them and solving the occasional problems with them). I thought about the Key Words of my 100-item peg memory system (I love playing with them), and my Genealogy Hobby (I love finding relatives for people). I thought about my discovery of how Binoculars help me to see trees from my yard (I love spying on them), and about my organizing of items in labeled Shoeboxes (I love locating them when I want them). I thought about my collection of nine 85c Reading Glasses (after rebate) from Wal-Mart (I love having a pair nearby when I need one), and about my Postal Scale and collection of 1c, 10c, and dollar stamps (I love not having to go to the post office).

Then I thought, “That’s enough.” I need to choose a topic for this week’s essay.

I thought about my most often used iPhone APP – the Weather Forecast (I love planning for swimming as well as for rainy days), and I thought about the APP I use most when I am just waiting around – GeoQuiz (I love trying to identify countries, flags, emblems and capitals). I thought about iMovie (I love editing my movie clips with transitions, titles, music, etc.).

Then I thought . . .

. . . And then I remembered – My Grandson is coming on Sunday – for a whole week! What fun we will have! We will play with cars and trucks, and Star Wars guys, and read books, and watch movies, and talk!

There is nothing more passionate to me than my family – my wife, my mom, my children and their spouses, my sisters and their families, and especially my grandson. Being a grandpa is my greatest passion! Not just this week, but always.

Being a grandpa is FUN, but it is also a connection – a link from my past – my ancestors – to the future – my grandson and his potential descendants.

I hope I am around to see my children give me more grandchildren. Even if I am not, I know that they will hear about me, their grandpa. I love it!
