We Have a New Nurse, and We Go on a Favorite Midwestern Outing

Dateline Dayton – I will continue our Florida experience next time. First, I would like to share few items of news.

On Saturday, our granddaughter, Heather, who lives in Michigan, was notified that she had passed her nurses licensing test.  Now she is a licensed Registered Nurse. Great news, and hopefully she will find employment, to her liking.

Collecting My Thoughts

Last Thursday, Howard, my cash register collecting buddy, and I, went to Chicago for the Cash Register Collectors Club meeting and swap meet. We didn’t take the direct route because we were providing transportation for a fellow collector from Michigan, Dan. We were to meet in Maumee, Ohio, near the entrance to the Ohio Turnpike. Dan was waiting for us in the parking lot of the Maumee Antique Mall.

Traffic was not bad anywhere on I-75, the turnpike or even around Chicago. Our only slowdown was dealing with an oversized load on 75. On this trip, we didn’t even make any wrong turns, so we weren’t forced to make U-turns.

When we arrived in St Charles, a little past 2 o’clock, some members already were there. We visited with them in the lobby while waiting for our room to be cleaned.

Late Thursday afternoon, we made our traditional trip down the road to Corfu for supper, a great place to eat, with reasonable prices and large portions of good food. We were joined by Jim Sharp and his wife from Indiana.

Our meeting was in the evening, and again the subject of conversation was our two sticking points; the swap meet and our website. Both subjects were hashed out far too long, and then it was time for our elections. We are now truly an international organization, as our new president, Harry, is from Canada.

After the meeting, it was back to the lobby for more fellowship and conversation. Everyone must have been tired from the day’s travels. Our get-together broke up before 10:30. Surely it doesn’t have anything to do with the ages of our group?

On Friday morning, normally Howard and Dan are up before 5, heading over to Pheasant Run to see what is being unloaded from the trucks for the show. Since Howard was not feeling good, he and Dan waited until after breakfast to go over to the show. This gave me an opportunity to shower before joining them for breakfast in the hotel.

After a quick walk down the Pheasant Run’s parking lot, it was back to the hotel, to wait for the start of our swap meet in a lot across the street from Pheasant Run. Although much smaller than in the past, it was a wonderful event, limited to just members of the club, due to the problems we encountered last November. I sold one item, so that made the event even better.

Our trip home via Michigan was uneventful, except for Dan’s ramblings. Did I say that Howard and I enjoy them?
