Two Parties Instead of One – Graduation and Then an All-Nighter

Mike HennesseyOP-ED

Dateline Dayton – Last Friday we drove to Michigan to attend our grandson’s graduation party the following day. Our drive was pleasant. No hurry, and the weather cooperated.

Since the Casey family closes the pool at the complex where they live, we couldn’t go to supper until after 8. Upon arrival at their home, we loaded the car with all of the party decorations, and we went to the hall to decorate. Once we got back to the house, we were able to leave for supper,. By now was a storm, and everyone had to vacate the pool.

During supper, my dental plate broke – along with a tooth that came out a week ago Saturday while eating breakfast. My dentist will love seeing me. Possibly I should give up eating. My doctor would like that. He always comments about my weight. Sure, I would like to lose a few pounds. But I already am old and ugly. Why not sport a few extra pounds and be old, fat and ugly?

We stayed at a hotel on Friday night. The room next to ours was hosting a party. The affair started at 12:30 a.m. and lasted until 5. We should have called the front desk. But I did not want to move. The partygoers probably would have known who complained. I am surprised the front desk wasn’t able to hear them. Today, you never know who’s carrying a gun.

There were at least three women and two men. We were able to learn the one woman’s bra size and that she has a problem getting her dress on. Jewelry was discussed along with many other subjects.  Not a restful night.

Although there are few free hotel breakfasts you could classify as good, this one was not among them. Won’t stay at this hotel again.

The graduation party was very nice. Lots of food. It lasted from 12 to 3. Soon as everyone left, we started to clean up. All the decorations and leftover food went back to the house. Once that was accomplished, Pauline and I, along with Darlene and Emily, were on our way to Ohio. They are spending the week here in Kettering. I will be taking them home tomorrow.

Sunday there was church, and then we went out for breakfast, followed by a trip to the meat market. Once home. I worked in the yard until it was time to go to our son’s for supper. Chris did a great job of cooking, serving a pork chop dinner, which I had to eat verrrry slowly.

After supper we were sitting on the porch when his neighbors, across the street, invited us to sit around their fire pit. Just as we all got comfortable and were served drinks and snacks, it started to rain. We stuck it out for two minutes. The rain came harder,. We retreated to the front porch. We had a lovely evening in spite of the weather

It doesn’t seem possible today already is the Fourth of July. I want to wish everyone a very happy and safe Fourth.
