SIRI and JABRA – Good Friends

Robert EbsenOP-ED

While driving with my iPhone in my shirt pocket, I can have a conversation with SIRI through JABRA.

SIRI is my digital personal assistant, compliments of the iPhone, and JABRA is my car speaker system that pairs with the iPhone, and allows me to communicate, hands free, with SIRI.

All I do is push the little button on the bottom of JABRA, which is attached to my car’s visor. I hear a short beep-beep sound, and then I voice my requests.

While driving back from Desert Hot Springs yesterday, we were listening to the radio through JABRA. By tuning in to the TuneIn Radio APP on the iPhone, we were able to clearly hear our favorite L.A. radio station when we were out of its range. During the commercials, I explained to my wife I was going to play with SIRI and JABRA for a minute.

SIRI: Beep-Beep.

Me: Directions to the nearest Wal-Mart.

SIRI: I found 15 Wal-Marts near you. The closest is 2 miles south of you. Would you like to get directions to it, or go to the next item?

Me: Go to the next item.

SIRI: There is a Wal-Mart 4 miles west of you. Would you like . . .

Me: Cancel that. Directions to the nearest Coffee Bean.

Commercial over – back to the radio station

Here are a few more FUN things I like to ask and tell SIRI:

What’s the temperature? What’s the temperature in San Diego?

What’s the weather going to be like tomorrow?

Get directions to my sister’s home. What’s my next turn?

What’s my ETA (estimated time of arrival)? Send an email to Bob.

Send a text to Bob. Call Bob. Take a note.

Add “shoes” to my Shopping Note. Set an alarm for 6:30 p.m.

Remind me to record Homeland when I arrive home.

Remind me to buy grape juice when I pass Target. SIRI, where am I?

Where am I? I’m in digital heaven. I just love SIRI. Oops. Not really, honey.
