My Clients Come and Go with Rapidity, Which Is a Good Sign

Nicholas PollakOP-ED

In a profession where you do not know how any day will turn out, I receive clients with similar and identical issues.

No one who wants to quit smoking for quite a while.

Suddenly, four clients want to stop. Same with relationships. Recently, panic and anxiety.

I am constantly on the lookout for clients. Psychologists and psychiatrists don’t have the same problem. They will see a patient for years. Without exception, all of my hypnotherapy clients have their issues resolved within six sessions. The first three span three weeks, the last three over six weeks.

Clients come and go rapidly.

As for Insurance

Many ask if I take insurance. I do not. If a client’s insurance company will cover hypnotherapy, I give the person an invoice, and he or she can pursue the company. I am not alone in this practice. When I was taking my kids for therapy a few years ago, the psychologist took my co-payment and billed the insurance company. She experienced what many of us have –insurance companies reliably delay or deny payments leaving the professional at a disadvantage, having to go after the client. This can interfere with the rapport the professional is trying to build.

In the therapist’s case, if I wanted to continue to see her with the kids, she told me, I would have to pay up front and separately bill insurance. I met resistance from the insurance company. Eventually, they paid.

Hypnotherapy is new to insurance companies. Many will not offer coverage, which is shortsighted. Imagine how much money a company can save if a patient’s surgical recovery time is halved. Or how much could be saved using hypnosis as an anesthetic? To quit smoking, lose weight eliminate panic and anxiety, reduce surgical blood loss. Companies still do not view hypnotherapy as a legitimate form of therapy, exasperating when it has benefited from so much good press.

From these links, you can see there is nothing but praise for what hypnotherapy accomplishes for the willing.

Interestingly, some MD’s are beginning to see advantages of hypnotherapy. They send clients to me. The most common reasons: panic and anxiety, pain control, teeth grinding.

When I was visiting a new dentist today, and he found out I was a hypnotist, he insisted I give him a handful of business cards for  as his patients who fear dentists.

I will desensitize them to their fears and create a post-hypnotic suggestion of a key word or phrase. When it is spoken, it will instantly put the patient into a state of deep relaxation. I place the word in an envelope and have the patient hand it to the dentist. Inside are minimal instructions for to administering the key word or phrase.

Powerful, effective. Let me know if any of you may consider yourselves dental chickens. See me and rid yourself of your problem.
