The Day CNN Cooed and Patted the Grandfatherly Dictator on His Cruel Head

When the grandfatherly, milk-sipping dictator of Cuba announced the other morning that his strictly-Constitutional 49-year term as Head Thug of the island was toddling toward its end, because he was, I felt a pinch in my heart.

My eyelids drooped. My pace slowed.

Scarcely any moment in public life is more sincerely tinged with black crepe than when a beloved national leader gets his ticket punched for a one-way cruise down the River Styx.

Lame American left-wingers choked in unison even as they were injecting themselves with the latest drugs. Among the most pathetic mourners was the film “documentarian” Michael Moore. Last year, he produced a Castro propaganda film and foisted it off on the blame-America far-left crowd. By golly whillickers if the Sarandons, the Clooneys, the Robbinses and the Mike Farrells didn’t fall for it.

Serious non-thinkers, lefties love dictators.

Lying on my stomach on our living room floor, I leafed with disbelief through three tear-spewing stories on the Dictator Who Makes Liberals Swoon in Wednesday’s Los Angeles Times by Carol Williams.

A Fawning, Fooled Foil

A true-believing foil for dashing dictators, Ms. Williams, a foolish, guileless girl, wrote with fawning adoration. My tear ducts moistened. I had not seen that much sugar, spice and everything nice in a story since Fibber McGee was term-limited out as the Mayor of Wistful Vista.

Heat-packing Castro was a dictator in the class of Hussein, a historic tendency among thugs who seize power with a gun and destroy their intimidated people one brain cell at a time while holding an iron grip on power for 49 years.

If I had never heard of Castro before reading the left-wing Ms. Williams, I would have placed the seemingly tame tyrant in the same benevolent category as Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

She Can’t Be That Dumb, Can She
?

It is remarkable how abysmally ignorant Ms. Williams has remained throughout her years of covering Castro and the dictators of South America. Journalistically, the old girl could be sued for fraud. What fiction she wove.

She played straight man to all of Castro’s odious propaganda lines, as she reliably has in the past. I thought the dictator had converted a garbage dump, strewn with dead bodies, into an island paradise instead of the reverse.

Ms. Williams made him sound as silky and seductive as Penelope Pinkwater the day she she stepped down as President of the Ladies Aid Society in my hometown.

The Hateys Speak up Again

The velveteen softness of the national coverage was stunning but not surprising. The New York Times, those opulent oligarchs of objectivity, ascribed far worse behavior yesterday to Sen. McCain on A-1 than the deluded Ms. Williams assigned to Castro.

Liberal journalists have fooled about half of gullible America for decades. They hate Republicans, conservatives and anyone who professes to love this country.

The News Grows Worse

Throughout its brief history, CNN has been one of the worst offenders of serious journalism. If it ain’t left, it ain’t worth loving, is CNN’s motto.

If you thought the television coverage of Castro’s “resignation” was softer than that of any Republican Presidential candidate, you were not hallucinating.

Yesterday, an email surfaced that a CNN producer had sent to boys and girls who anchor the news broadcasts at Left Wing Central. She told them to go easy on Castro because he really was not a bad fellow.

Acting like a Michael Moore wannabe, the producer, Allison Flexner, wrote, in part:

“Please note Fidel did bring social reforms to Cuba — namely free education and universal health care, and racial integration, in addition to being criticized for oppressing human rights and freedom of speech.”

Such left-wing bilge is unworthy of elucidation.
