Re “The Second Slaying of Michael Brown, Jaywalker”

At the ripe age of 68 years old, it is difficult to believe that Dr. Earl Ofari Hutchinson, a gentleman of considerable influence, writes with a straight face when he lays whitey at the root of the black community’s most rudimentary problems:

• Education
• Employment
• A modicum of self-esteem

Take responsibility, Dr. Hutchinson.

All three wounds have been calculatedly self-inflicted.

If we can agree that blacks are as cerebrally capable as any white boy or girl – better yet, as capable as any Asian boy or girl – why are they failing in the classroom in spectacular numbers?

They do not have, and perhaps cannot spell, much less define, v-a-l-u-e-s, a little word with lifelong implications.

Take responsibility, Dr. Hutchinson.

Where are the values of black boys and girls? Do you hear their chatter? Music and sports are their primary values. Doesn’t that embarrass you? It does me. I have a black son, black grandchildren. They are accomplished because they were raised by a grounded mother with traditional moral values.

Don’t tell me about Michael Brown, by the most reliable accounts a thief, at least.

Defend data that has become cliché’d by now – 26 black people shot by other black people on Michael Brown Weekend in Chicago. Ain’t as glamourous as faulting whitey.

Did whitey drive them to it?

Thirteen percent of the population, and blacks commit 50 percent of crimes.

Not to worry. Whitey did it.

Because of pressure from race-minded black community leaders, we read this month that LAUSD is going into Ted Cooke mode, cowardly diving under the desk, softening punishments for school crimes – fighting and drug-taking and dealing.

A few months ago we were told that 3 percent of Crenshaw High School students read and comprehended math at grade level.

Doesn’t that embarrass you, Dr. Hutchinson? Does me. Take responsibility.

The black unemployment rate lives on the ceiling.

Doesn’t that trouble you? Take responsibility, Dr. Hutchinson.

Young black males are an incredibly non-productive section of America, standing on street corners, flying down the boulevard on skateboards.

Have they done homework in the last five years?

All race-baiters kvetch about is the education gap – poor black schools. That is a bologna sandwich, pal, an excuse, because there isn’t an adult in their home to provide direction.

Three-quarters of black babies are born out of wedlock. You have to practice to get to that level.

Instead of standing in the middle of the street and shouting “Racism,” as if this is 1950, take responsibility, Dr. Hutchinson.

Ninety-nine percent of problems will be resolved if you will take responsibility – instead of the easy way that appeals only to yahoos.
