Closing Date Looks Again for Our Old House

Mike HennesseyOP-ED

Dateline Dayton — Regarding the sale of our house, we still do not have a closing date, except it is supposed to happen between now and next Friday.

I have patched most of the holes in the walls where we had pictures or other objects.  Sanding still is to be done, on Saturday.  Along with cutting the grass, I hope to complete the work on the house.

Such a Week

We have been on the run.  On Mother’s Day,  Pauline worked hard.  We were scheduled to have only our son for dinner, but our daughter and her four children also came.  She did bring food.  However, when I went to bed, Pauline still was doing dishes and cleaning. She told me not to touch the kitchen. I obeyed.

Monday evening I was tired. Sumday had been a rough night, a storm, and our dog does not like storms.  Jake wants to go out to chase and bark at the thunder.  Not being able to go out, he proceeds to do it in the house.  In the evening, after getting something to eat, we attended our granddaughter’s soccer game.

Tuesday, I took a half-day off to drive Pauline's brother to the eye doctor.  Things are not good. The doctor doesn't have any idea what's going on with his eye. He will see another doctor in two weeks.

Tuesday evening I attended the annual meeting for our condo association.  I was surprised at the attendance, only 15, and secondly, that no one had any complaints. The meeting ended in just 30 minutes.

Wednesday I took another half-day off, this time to take Joe to his cardiologist appointment.   He needed blood work for the eye doctor, so we left a half hour early to get this accomplished, since the facility was in the same building.  We could have left a half hour after his appointment time and still would had to wait another half hour to see his doctor.

No wonder people are sick when you have to wait an hour to see the doctor.  At least, in this case, no one was there with any contagious diseases. We were seeing a heart doctor.

I read about the individual with MERS, that sat in a busy ER waiting room for 45 minutes.  How many others were exposed to this deadly virus why he was awaiting treatment?  The other interesting point is, he did not drive by himself to this country. If he had the disease when he arrived, how many people were exposed on the flight?  I've always said “hospitals are not healthy places for well people.” Add doctors’ offices!

Last week Pauline had a doctor’s appointment at 10:30.  I said to her that she would be out at 12. Her doctor is slow. I missed by five minutes.

It still is raining.  Wish I could send some of our rain to California.  It has rained every day this week. It is to stop soon.
