A 40-year-old Culver City man stabbed numerous times in a St. Patrick’s Day assault resulting from a bar spillover fracas near South Sepulveda Boulevard, turns out to be no stranger to the Police Dept.

Andrew Wilson, described by acquaintances as burly with a shaved head, was arrested on Monday, March 3, on a charge of public intoxication.

Police Lt. Ron Iizuka did not know how long Mr. Wilson was locked up.

In such cases, he said, the drunk is detained for a minimum of five hours and then sent on his way without further penalty.

The Confrontation

Walking along Sawtelle Boulevard around midnight as St. Patrick’s Day was ending, Mr. Wilson, who seems to be well-known in the neighborhood, was attacked and stabbed, allegedly by Justin Finizza, 31 years old.

Police said Mr. Finizza was chased out of the Scarlet Lady bar twice in the late evening. He was fleeing the second time when he intersected with Mr. Wilson.

Arrested last week on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, Mr. Finizza is being held in County Jail under $1 million bond, an unusually large figure.

It has not yet been disclosed why he allegedly attacked Mr. Wilson.

“Wrong place, wrong time,” Mr. Wilson has told pals regarding his ostensibly random victimization.

At the time of the assault 2 1/2 weeks ago, both the suspect and the victim were reported to have sustained major injuries, possibly life-threatening.

Barely a week later, sources said, Mr. Wilson disagreed with an assessment by hospital authorities and checked himself out of the facility.

On the evening of the day he left the hospital, sources said Mr. Wilson was enjoying a libation with his sister, who was briefly detained by police after allegedly running down Mr. Finizza with her car.
