Pertinent Questions for the Oil Field Crowd

Two weeks after the bannered debate Council Chambers between the City Council and community on one side, Sentinel Peak Resources on the other, developed a flat tire, nagging questions remain about the state of the Inglewood Oil Field.

At least Culver City’s less than 10 percent patch of the field.

How stringent will the new drilling and maintenance regulations be?

When will the new regs be introduced?

Sentinel, the oil field operator since last winter, quit negotiations the day of the debate.

Where does that leave worried nearby residents?

Here are a few more headscratchers:

  • On the Richter Scale, are the current events surrounding the oil field – Sentinel’s pullback – of earthquake level or notably less?
  • What is the theory on why Sentinel withdrew on day of the public debate?
  • Which side gained or lost as a result of the pullback?
  • How should the coming oil field regulations be characterized, as much tougher than current ones or merely an upgrade?
  • Does the city have more or less leverage than before the cancelled debate?
