Farragut Elementary students are flexing their academic muscles in a victory celebration this afternoon.

Farragut’s 363 English and math students who studied and tested their learning skills in the maiden year of the Common Core concept in the School District, fared better than anyone else in Culver City.

When the statewide scores in the imposed one-size-fits-all curriculum were released at mid-day, a whopping 63 percent of Farragut students met and surpassed state learning targets.

A more immediate breakdown of results was not immediately available.

Farragut’s sunny outcome sharply contrasts with national and statewide trends.

Only 44 percent of California students reached their grade targets in English and worse, a scant 34 percent were on the mark for math.

Over at LAUSD, 33 percent of English students and 25 percent of math students met their goals.

Elsewhere in Culver City, the Middle School drew the next best score after Farragut. Forty-six percent of 1,509 Middle School students made their target.

  • Culver City High School, 40 percent of 472 students.
  • Lin Howe Elementary, 37 percent of 252 students.
  • El Rincon Elementary, 37 percent of 250 students.
  • La Ballona Elementary, 35 percent of 286 students.
