How to Build Leaders
Myrna is just what we were looking for, Ms. Davis said the other morning. She is a good manager. One of her strengths is building leaders, and we can certainly use that skill in Culver City. The LAUSD teachers I spoke to said that Myrna gave them the support they needed. President David Mielke and the Teachers Union, once again scuffling for a new contract, frequently have complained that the School Board and the School District administrators are only technically supportive of them. Ms. Davis is confident that assertion soon will be forgotten.
The Super Will Be Aggressive
Myrna is going to be a hands-on leader, and that will be welcome, Ms. Davis said. She gets right in there. She is not going to be bashful or standoffish. I know she is anxious to address our financial issues. She seems to be very effective at working with people. Ms. Davis talked about a conversation she had with the new Superintendent. She told me, My governing pattern is collaboration the teachers, the community, the School Board. I am a creative thinker when it comes to education. I want to hear from everybody. I want to know what students and teachers are thinking. I want to know what their concerns are. Ms. Davis disclosed her own No. 1 priority to Dr. Rivera Cote. I told her that closing the achievement gap, ethnically, and in all ways, is very important, said the School Board President.
